Customer Challenge Group on Welsh Water

We have met Welsh Government this week as part of our role on the Customer Challenge Group on Welsh Water.

The CCG is an independent customer focused stakeholder group that provides scrutiny and challenge to Wales’ only water company, ensuring that the needs of current and future customers and communities are at the heart of how Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water operates.

The diverse membership of the CCG reflects a range of DCWW customer perspectives and includes experts in customer research and engagement. Organisations represented within the group include those working on behalf of older people or people in vulnerable circumstances, and environmental organisations.

We are pleased to understand that Welsh Government are seeking to undertake a review of what is needed to remove Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) in Wales – click here for the Afonydd Cymru Policy Statement on CSOs.

Afonydd Cymru have subsequently written to WG outlining areas which we think need to be considered for a review in Wales, to deliver better outcomes for our rivers. We look forward to the outcomes of the review.

In the meantime, we will continue to challenge NRW and DCWW on the current illegal operation of COs to our rivers. We are actively involved in a number of specific SO failure cases, whilst also asking for some immediate regulatory changes which we believe can be delivered in the short-term.
