Ewan Smout, GIS & Projects Officer

The Westminster Bill is another piece of legislation made in England with sections that are inappropriate for Wales

Ewan joined Afonydd Cymru in May 2026 as a GIS & Project Officer and holds a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Remote Sensing and GIS. Growing up in Mid Wales near Llanidloes, the first town on the River Severn, fostered an early connection to rivers and the natural environment for which Wales is known and loved.

With previous experience in international development, environmental consultancy, and sustainable due diligence, his work for Afonydd Cymru focuses on using spatial data to understand, monitor, and address environmental pressures, supporting informed decision-making.

This includes analysing and visualising environmental data, producing maps and GIS outputs, and identifying pressures within river systems. His work supports the planning and delivery of habitat improvements and water quality interventions, alongside project coordination, reporting, and collaboration with rivers trusts and partners across Wales.
